Françoise Calcagno was born in Douai (France) in 1966. She acheived a diploma in scenography under Giovanni Soccol in 1992 at the Art Accademy in Venice, Italy. In 1993 and 1994 she was scenography assistant at the “La Bottega Veneziana” at Quarto D’Altino, and made projects and produced some scenography for amatorial theatre companies.

In 1996 she was invited to exhibit her work at the VIII Biennial of Contemporary Xilography of Carpi, and features in the catalogue. Invited by the Venezia Viva Etching Club, she made work using experimental techniques.

In 1997 she was chosen to exhibit at the II National Fabio Bertoni Prize Exhibit, with an etching, at Fermignano (Pesaro); in 1999 she won 2nd prize at the same venue and features in the catalogue.

She has held courses in drawing and painting and has collaborated with the Centro Internazionale della Grafica Printmaking of Venice.

She has exhibited in many group and solo shows with paintings and prints, in several exhibits inside and outside Italy. She has been participating for several years in the activites of the Atelier Aperto of Venice, directed by Nicola Sene, and explored traditional and experimental etching techniques with artists from different countries.

In 1999 she held a personal exhibit at Palazzo Crepadona in Belluno, Italy, with painting and prints, and also printmaking work at the Galleria Venezia Viva in Venice, and presented two artists books; the same year she participated in the IV Printmaking Biennial “Tradizione e Innovazione” at Città di Sant’Elpidio, and exhibited her artists book “Balena di pietra” during the show “Libri e fogli d’artista” with the Centro Internazionale della Grafica, at the Honor Salon of the Italian Consulate in Grenoble, France.

In January 2000 she held a solo exhibit with her paintings at the Spazio Pisanello Gallery in Verona.

In May 2000 she showed an installation with various materials in collaboration with Isabelle Poilprez at the glassworks gallery “Rossella Junck” in Venice. In January 2002 she was invited by Riccardo Licata to participate in the Contemporary Art Biennial “Salon Comparaisons 2002” in Paris.

In November that year she exhibited her artists book at the Pyramid Atlantic 7th Biennial Book Arts Fair in Washington D.C.

In April 2004 at the Gallery Ten in Washington she exhibited graphic work with the Atelier Aperto group; at the same time she held a solo exhibit at the “Bistrot de Venise” in Venice.

In June 2004 she was chosen to exhibit at the V Carlo Dalla Zorza Prize Exhibit by Ponte Rosso Gallery in Milan and features in the catalogue. In December 2004 she was invited by curator Elisa Capitanio to exhibit her work at the “Malvasia Vecchia Club” in Venice.

In September 2005 she opened her new studio and exhibition space “Françoise Calcagno Art Studio” in Venice, with an exhibition of her latest works entitled “E trovi un lago” ( “And you find a lake” ). In November she was invited by Riccardo Licata to participate in the 12th International Biennial of Printmaking and of New Images at Sarcelles Val de France and features in the catalogue. In October 2006 a work of her is chosen for an exhibition at the Bevilacqua La Masa Gallery in Venice and features in the catalogue of the International Art Price “Un menu per La Colomba”.

In June 2007 she exhibited a selection of her last works at “Ottica Urbani”, in Venice, during the art show “Percorsi Urbani”.
